Animal Crossing: City Folk Afterthoughts

1UP: The ability to set the calendar is an interesting feature. Was it added so that if people missed certain days, they could still catch up and not get scolded. Or was it intended more as a balance for the fact that City Folk isn’t portable and therefore would be harder to play at all times?
Rich Amtower: If you do the time-travel thing, you always run the risk of having things go awry in your town. We’ve always recommended playing the game day-by-day. After all, if you miss a holiday, there’s always another one around the corner!
Reiko Ninomiya: I don’t know if I’d call it a feature necessarily, but I’d imagine that it is an issue of balance. Users have the flexibility to change the calendar — though that’s not ideally how the game is played — because we want to make events and special items accessible.
1UP: Tom Nook: Why is he a jerk?
RA: You think he’s a jerk? That’s too bad. He’s actually quite nice. He’s like that first boss you ever had when you worked your first job in high school or wherever… He’s all about business, first and foremost, and if he doesn’t always spare the time for pleasantries, that doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. He’s just got a lot on his plate. Remember, he’s hiring you, a fresh face in town without even a résumé. He’s taking a big risk, and this alone should tell you a lot about his generous nature.
RN: Just like in a real town, there are many different personalities represented in the community. You won’t necessarily like everyone in your town, but that’s life, isn’t it?
